1974: He broke the Bambino’s record. Atlanta’s Hank Aaron took the Dodgers’ Al Downing deep for career home run number 715, breaking Babe Ruth’s all-time career record. “Hammerin’ Hank” would have 755 homers when he retired in 1976.
1975: Another color barrier was broken. Future Hall of Famer Frank Robinson took over the reins of the Cleveland Indians. That made him Major League Baseball’s first ever Black manager.
2008: She reached the summit again. Pat Summitt led her Tennessee women’s basketball team to a 64-48 drubbing of Stanford in the national championship game. That was the eighth title in Summitt’s legendary coaching career.
