1904: The start of the greatest season for any pitcher ever. Jack Chesbro of the New York Highlanders got an 8-2 complete game victory over the Boston Americans. It was his first of 41 wins that season, a record that still stands today.
1968: One of sports’ grandest stages hosts the NBA for the first time. The New York Knicks debuted at Madison Square Garden. They christened their new home with a 114-102 win over the San Diego Rockets.
1969: It was MLB north of the border. The new Montreal Expos took on the St. Louis Cardinals in the first regular season Major League Baseball game outside the United States. The Expos clipped the Cards 8-7.
