Crews from the Groom Creek Fire District responded to an illegal burn reported near Wolf Creek Road and R.W. Fields Road Saturday morning.
Personnel from Engine 41 found an abandoned campfire that had already been put out by members of the public. However, firefighters discovered significant residual heat inside the fire ring and fully extinguished the area before clearing the scene.
Fire officials say that while there are currently no fire restrictions in the Prescott National Forest, campfire safety remains important. They remind visitors that all fires must be completely out before leaving and that burning trash is not allowed.
Anyone who encounters an abandoned fire or illegal burn is urged to call 911 immediately.
