1950: A thrilling end to the Stanley Cup Finals. Pete Babando scored in double-overtime to give Detroit the 4-3 win over the Rangers. That gave the Red Wings the championship in seven games.

1952: The pitchers’ dual to end all pitchers’ duals. Cleveland’s Bob Feller and St. Louis’ Bob Cain both threw one-hitters. In the end, the Browns defeated the Indians 1-0.

1989: The end of an era in Los Angeles. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played his final regular season game for the Lakers. He posted ten points in a 121-117 win over Seattle.

Birthdays in the sports world today . . . Los Angeles Lakers Hall of Fame shooting guard Gail Goodrich is 83. Former Philadelphia Flyers winger Reggie Leach is 76. Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame outfielder Andruw Jones and former WWE champion John Cena are both 49. San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk is 35, and New York Giants linebacker Brian Burns is 28.
