This Day in Sports History, April 27th

1973: Their first no-no. Steve Busby threw the first no-hitter in Kansas City Royals history in a 3-0 victory over Detroit. Busby struck out four and walked six in the game.

1983: He became the strikeout king. Nolan Ryan fanned Montreal’s Brad Mills for his 3,509th career strikeout. That moved him past Walter Johnson to become MLB’s all-time strikeout leader.

1984: One long game. Cleveland bested Detroit 8-4 in a 19-inning affair. Mike Hargrove got the big hit for the Indians with a bases-clearing double in the top of the 19th.

Happy birthday today to . . . San Antonio Spurs Hall of Fame shooting guard George Gervin, who’s 74. Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is 32, and Ottawa Senators center Drake Batherson is 28.
