1954: He did it in under four. British runner Roger Bannister became the first man to run one mile in under four minutes. His time . . . 3:59.4.

1982: He got the big win. Seattle’s Gaylord Perry won his 300th career game in a 7-3 triumph over the Yankees. Perry would win 314 games before retiring in 1983 at age 44.

1998: A record tied. The Cubs’ Kerry Wood matched Roger Clemens’ mark with 20 strikeouts in one game. Wood also gave up just one hit in a 2-0 victory over Houston.

Pittsburgh Steelers tackle Cameron Heyward is 37, and Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is 36.
