Three local track and field athletes returned home with championship gold from their respective state meets. Two of them hail from Prescott. Eli Allen was the state champ in the boys shot put, and Libby Hlavacek was state champ in the girls pole vault. Chino Valley also produced a state champion with Matt Sibole in the javelin. In addition, Hlavacek was fourth in the high jump.
Other top finishers from the weekend; Chino Valley’s Eliana Metz finished third in the girls 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs, seventh in the 800 meter run, and was part of the 4×800 relay team that finished third. For Bradshaw Mountain, Kaden Espinosa was fourth in the boys 110 meter hurdles, Sebastian Witokowski placed fourth in the boys 400 meter dash, the boys 4×400 finished fifth, and Sarah Dorsey was seventh in the girls shot put. Prescott’s Aubrey Kitahata placed sixth in the girls 200 meter run, and Chino Valley’s Travis Minkus placed 12th in the boys shot put.
