This Day in Sports History, May 18th

1971: The Pocket Rocket made his presence felt. Montreal’s Henri Richard notched two goals in a 3-2 win over Chicago. That secured the Stanley Cup for the Canadiens in seven games.

1990: This Oiler went on a rampage. Edmonton’s Jari Kurri recorded three goals and two assists in a 7-2 rout of Boston in Game Two of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Oilers would ultimately win the Cup in five games.

2004: The Big Unit’s perfect day. Arizona’s Randy Johnson threw a perfect game, beating Atlanta 2-0. Johnson fanned 13 Braves in that contest.

Happy birthday today to . . . Oakland A’s Hall of Fame outfielder – and ASU product – “Mr. October” Reggie Jackson, who’s 80. Former Texas Rangers catcher Jim Sundberg is 75. Ex-Indianapolis Colts center Ray Donaldson is 68. Edmonton Oilers Hall of Fame center Jari Kurri is 66, and former Dallas Cowboys tackle Flozell Adams is 51.
