1977: So many homers. Boston and Milwaukee combined for an MLB record eleven home runs in one game, which the Red Sox won 14-10. The Bosox Fred Lynn and the Brewers’ Don Money both socked two home runs.
1985: The big score. Cincinnati’s Pete Rose crossed the plate for the 2,108th run scored of his career. That put him over Hank Aaron for most runs by a National League player.
1990: He got in a good walk. The Cubs’ Andre Dawson received an MLB record five intentional walks in one game. He also got a hit, putting him on base six times, but Dawson never scored in a 2-1 16-inning win by Chicago over Cincinnati.
Time to wish a happy birthday today to . . . former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tommy John, who’s 83. Pro wrestler Daniel Bryan is 45. Tennis player Novak Djokovic is 39, and Utah Jazz power forward – and UofA product – Lauri Markkanen is 29.
