1975: Another no-no for the Ryan Express. California’s Nolan Ryan threw the fourth no-hitter of his career in a 1-0 win over Baltimore. Ryan struck out nine in the game.
1979: This city finally got a major championship. Seattle overpowered Washington 97-93 to win the NBA championship in five games. It was the city’s first ever championship in a major sports league.
1993: “Thunder Dan” went off from beyond the arc. Phoenix’s Dan Majerle nailed a then-NBA playoff record eight three-pointers in one game. That gave the Suns the 120-114 win over Seattle in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.
Happy birthday today to . . . Edmonton Oilers Hall of Fame defenseman Paul Coffey, who’s 65. Former Arizona Cardinals fullback Larry Centers is 58. Ex-Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano is 45, and Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi is 36.
