The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Cottonwood teacher following an investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse reported years after the incidents occurred.
Detectives say the investigation began after the mother of an 18-year-old man disclosed to a deputy that her son had been molested when he was about 11 or 12 years old. Investigators identified the suspect as 31-year-old Chester Cox of Cottonwood, a teacher at Dr. Daniel Bright Elementary School. Authorities say the alleged abuse did not occur on school property, and the victim was not a student at the school.
Cox was arrested and booked into the Yavapai County Detention Center on three counts of sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of child molestation. He is being held without bond.
