A Yavapai County jury convicted a Phoenix man for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon during a road rage incident in Cordes Junction.
Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane announced on May 30, 40-year-old Scott Alen Woodruff was convicted of the incident, which occurred on I-17 on January 23rd of last year. Woodruff has sideswiped another vehicle. When both vehicles stopped, Woodruff got out and approached the victim. Woodruff attempted to leave after the victim said he was calling the police. When the victim asked him to stay until law enforcement arrived, Woodruff drew a revolver, pointed it at the victim’s face, and threatened to kill him. Woodruff then fled the scene.
McGrane stated, “Road rage incidents are becoming all too common across our country. As a gun owner and a strong supporter of our Second Amendment rights, I know those rights come under attack whenever someone uses a firearm to commit a crime. I want to be clear, it is never okay to point a gun at someone to stop them from calling the police. If you do that in Yavapai County, you will go to prison.”
Sentencing is scheduled for July 9 at 3:30 p.m. before the Judge Krista Carman of the Yavapai County Superior Court. Woodruff faces five to 15 years in prison.
