The monsoon is expected to dump rain on the Prescott area starting Friday and continuing through the weekend. Yavapai County emergency management officials want you to be prepared for it. Monsoon storms can result in a large amount of rain in a short period of time, making conditions ripe for a flash flood. If you encounter flood waters, do not drive through them. Arizona does have the “stupid motorist law,” which means if you drive through a flooded area and become stuck, you could pay for the cost of your rescue. Areas where a wildfire has occurred are also more prone to flash flooding.
In order to protect your property from flooding, you can go to your local fire station for free sandbags, though you will have to fill them yourself.
