Contractors are expected to begin a thinning project at Granite Basin in the Prescott National Forest this week. Approximately 1,300 acres of land are targeted for this project. The thinning of vegetation helps reduce the risk of wildfires and restores the health of the forest. Crews will be working in the area of Granite Basin Road, the Alto Pit OHV area, and Granite Basin Lake.
While no road closures are anticipated due to this project, Forest Service officials remind visitors to avoid areas where thinning equipment is in use.
