Small Wildfire in Dewey

A small wildfire broke out in Dewey Friday. Units from the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority were called out to the area of Clearview Drive and Highway 169, where the blaze consumed three acres. The Prescott Fire Department and the State Forestry and Fire Management Department also joined CAFMA to keep the fire from spreading. At one point, a retired Prescott Valley police officer and a retired captain from CAFMA’s predecessor, the Central Yavapai Fire District, helped out with firefighting efforts.

CAFMA officials say the fire was caused by sparks produced from chains dragging from a vehicle. All motorists are urged to check their vehicles before they hit the road to make sure their tow chains are properly secured.
