Time to see how some former Yavapai College baseball players are doing in the pros. Willie Calhoun has appeared in 51 games for the Los Angeles Angels. He’s batting .269 with two home runs, 12 RBIs, 13 doubles, and 20 runs scored.
Merrill Kelly is on the shelf for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He’s on the 60-day DL. Also on the 60-day DL is Cincinnati’s Christian Encarnacion-Strand.
Kirby Yates has been terrific out of the bullpen for Texas. He’s 3-1 with a 0.84 ERA, 14 saves, 45 strikeouts, and 14 walks in 32 innings. Yates was also named to the American League All-Star team, the second All-Star selection of his MLB career.
Ken Giles is in Atlanta’s minor league system, pitching for the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers. He’s 3-1 with a 4.94 ERA, two saves, 35 strikeouts, and 13 walks in 23 innings.
