CAFMA Reminds Everyone Seek Shelter During Thunderstorms

The monsoon returns to the Prescott area this weekend. Along with rain, these storms can also produce dangerous lightning. Officials with the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority want to remind everyone that when a storm hits, seek shelter in a building or inside your vehicle.

They also say you should never lie flat on the ground during a thunderstorm. It is a myth that doing so will keep you safe from lightning. CAFMA officials say that only increases your chances of being affected by ground currents caused by a lightning strike.

You should also avoid picnic shelters and dugouts during thunderstorms, as they are not safe from lightning strikes.
