Prescott PD Gives Advice on Discouraging Auto Break-ins

Lock it up or lose it! Those are the words from the Prescott Police Department regarding your vehicle. Police officials say the most recent auto burglary reports show in the majority of cases, cars that are left unlocked overnight are the main target for thieves. They advise you double-check to make sure your vehicle is locked before going inside for the night. It doesn’t matter if your vehicle is in your driveway or garage, thieves always look for the easiest opportunity.

You should also remove all valuables from your car, like purses, wallets, and cell phones, before going to bed. If you are out at night, park in busy, well-lit areas, as criminals are less likely to target your car in busy areas.

Last year, there were 42 cases of motor vehicle theft in Prescott.
