While temperatures are cooling off in the Tri-City area, it has not done anything to reduce the fire danger. In fact, it’s only increased. Prescott National Forest officials have listed the current fire danger as very high. It was high at the beginning of the month.
While no fire restrictions are in place in the forest, everyone is urged to take precautions when out camping or hiking. Make sure your campfire is completely out and ashes are cool to the touch before you leave. If you smoke, make sure to properly discard your cigarettes. Do not throw them into grass or brush.
When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle as they can throw out sparks. Also, do not park on grass, as the heat from under your vehicle can ignite the vegetation.
