Prescott Fire Dept Getting Safe Haven Baby Box

The City of Prescott has scheduled a blessing for its first Safe Haven Baby Box. It takes place September 30th at 1 p.m. at Fire Station 71 at 333 White Spar Road.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes help prevent illegal abandonment of newborns and ensure their safety and well-being. The temperature-controlled box is equipped with multiple alarm systems so first responders can quickly attend to a surrendered baby, while giving the parent time to leave. In Arizona, a Safe Haven newborn is an unharmed infant who is 30 days old or younger and the infant is delivered by a parent or an acquaintance of the parent to a Safe Haven provider.

The September 30th ceremony will feature a blessing from the fire department’s chaplain, as well as remarks from Fire Chief Holger Durre and Police Chief Amy Bonney.
