As the weather remains unseasonably warm, and with outdoor events scheduled this weekend, it is important to take precautions to protect yourself and your family from heat-related illnesses.
The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority recommends the following heat safety tips:
- Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after spending time outside. Avoid beverages with alcohol, caffeine, or large amounts of sugar, as these can further dehydrate you.
- Limit outdoor activity: Schedule outdoor activities for early morning or evening when temperatures are lower.
- Wear lightweight clothing: Choose light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and wear a wide-brimmed hat to provide shade.
- Be aware of heat illness symptoms: Become familiar with and watch for signs of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
And check on vulnerable people.
