CAFMA Gives Heat Safety Tips

As the weather remains unseasonably warm, and with outdoor events scheduled this weekend, it is important to take precautions to protect yourself and your family from heat-related illnesses.

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority recommends the following heat safety tips:

  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after spending time outside. Avoid beverages with alcohol, caffeine, or large amounts of sugar, as these can further dehydrate you.
  • Limit outdoor activity: Schedule outdoor activities for early morning or evening when temperatures are lower.
  • Wear lightweight clothing: Choose light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and wear a wide-brimmed hat to provide shade.
  • Be aware of heat illness symptoms: Become familiar with and watch for signs of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

And check on vulnerable people.
