Some firefighters from Yavapai County are back home. Members of the Crown King Fire District were part of an Arizona task force that assisted in fire suppression efforts for the Shoe Fire near Redding, California. That blaze has consumed 5,124 acres but is 75 percent contained. Arizona Task Force Two spent two weeks at the Shoe Fire.
Along with the Crown King Fire District, the task force included personnel from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, the Eloy Fire District, the Pinion Pine Fire District, the Alpine Fire Department, and the Green Valley Fire District.
There was one reported injury at the Shoe Fire. A firefighter sleeping in the back of a pickup truck was bitten by a young bear. His injuries were non-life-threatening. It is not known what agency the injured firefighter represented.
