The Goldwater prescribed burn that was planned for November 1st through the 7th has been cancelled because conditions are not favorable to meet the objectives of the prescription fire. Forest Service officials say all trails in the Bean Peaks trail system will remain open.
Managers on the Prescott National Forest say the freed-up resources will instead support the Crater RX project on the Verde Ranger District during this time.
Fire managers plan to use ground and aerial resources to treat over 2,800 acres located two miles north of Highway 169. Vegetation is primarily brush and grass, with small areas of juniper and ponderosa pine.
Expect smoke impacts to be light to moderate and visible from multiple locations including the Verde Valley, Cherry, Dewey-Humboldt, Prescott and surrounding areas.
