Fire managers in the Prescott National Forest plan to begin pile burning operations Tuesday. Debris will be burned in and around the Granite Basin area. The purpose of this burn is to reduce the amount of hazardous fuels in the forest following thinning operations in order to reduce the chance of a catastrophic wildfire.
Smoke should be visible in the Tri-City area, but its impact on surrounding communities should be minimal. The pile burning is expected to continue through the end of the year.
