A man, handcuffed after a traffic stop, fled from Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday evening and, when found, needed eight doses of Narcan. YCSO made the traffic stop and detained the driver of the vehicle after a handgun was found in his possession. The handcuffed suspect managed to run off toward a field and launched himself over a fence, landing on his face before disappearing into the darkness.
Deputies tracked the suspect with a K-9, while the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office and DPS responded to set up a perimeter. Cottonwood police officers were nearby and responded with a drone to assist in the search. They located the driver approximately 300 yards south of the stop location. He was lying face down, unresponsive, and received a total of eight doses of Narcan—six from law enforcement and two from Fire/EMS upon arrival.
He was transported to the hospital, medically cleared, and then booked into jail for outstanding warrants, drug possession, drug paraphernalia, being a prohibited possessor, and unlawful flight.
