Forest Thinning Projects in Walker and Blue Hills Start Sunday

Approximately 1,800 acres on the Walker and Lynx Mastication Projects and 22 acres on the Blue Hills Prescribed Fireline Prep Project on the Bradshaw Ranger District are scheduled to begin on December 1. No area or road closures are expected; however, officials ask the public to avoid the project areas when equipment is operating.

Project locations and acreage:

  • Walker Project: 968 acres south of the Ranch Trailhead parking area and west of Walker Road.
  • Lynx Project: 860 acres east of Walker Road, adjacent to and south of Lynx Lake.
  • Blue Hills Prescribed Fireline Project: 22 acres south of Old Black Canyon Highway.

Mastication, the mechanical thinning of forest areas, has proven to be an effective restoration and management tool.
