The grandchild scam has been around for a long time. This is when a scammer calls claiming to be someone’s grandson or granddaughter and says they need money to get out of trouble. Now, these scammers are using new technology to make themselves sound more legitimate.

Brazell notes that every time the Sheriff’s Office gives a community presentation on scams, at least one person in the audience says they were a victim of the grandchild scam.
