Last week’s snow did wonders for the Prescott National Forest. Officials with the Forest Service report the current fire danger is low. It had been high just before last week’s winter storm hit.
Even with the lower fire danger, everyone is urged to take precautions when out camping or hiking in the forest. Make sure your campfire is completely out and ashes are cool to the touch before you leave. If you smoke, make sure to properly discard your cigarettes. Do not throw them into grass or brush.
When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle as they can throw out sparks. Also, do not park on grass, as the heat from under your vehicle can ignite the vegetation.
