Fire Danger in Prescott Nat’l Forest Moderate

There is an increase in the fire danger in the Prescott National Forest. It is now moderate. Last week, the fire danger was low.

The increased fire danger comes on the heels of the Brady Fire, which broke out near Mayer earlier this week. Most of the county is in either extreme drought or severe drought.

Even with a moderate risk of a wildfire, everyone is urged to take precautions when out camping or hiking. Make sure your campfire is completely out and ashes are cool to the touch before you leave. If you smoke, make sure to properly discard your cigarettes. Do not throw them into grass or brush.

When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle as they can throw out sparks. Also, do not park on grass, as the heat from under your vehicle can ignite the vegetation.
