Not only did they make the state tournament, the Prescott girls basketball team was among 32 other clubs that qualified for the Open Division of state, pitting 4A, 5A, and 6A conference teams against one another. Their first draw was definitely a challenging one, as the number 30 seeded Lady Badgers went up against number three seeded Gilbert, a 6A school and the Fiesta Region champions who ended the regular season with a 16-2 record in power point games.
The Lady Tigers were in control for a good chunk of the night as Prescott fell 72-49. Bella Abt registered 16 points and reached the 1,000-point plateau for her career. Addie Prisciandaro tallied 16 points. Gilbert moves on to the second round of the Open State Tournament and hosts number 14 Desert Vista tomorrow. The Lady Thunder bested Perry 51-30 last night.
Prescott is not done with the post-season. The loss sends them back to the 4A Conference tournament, where they will be reseeded following the state play-in round tomorrow. The first round of 4A state is set for February 27th.
