The Bradshaw Mountain boys’ basketball team easily punched their ticket to the Sweet Sixteen of the state tournament. Friday, the Bears pummeled Coconino 75-47 in the state play-in round. The Ranniker brothers combined for 49 points, with Cam netting 28 and Preston notching 21. Kylen Jackson posted nine points and Mason Brambila tallied eight points. Bradshaw faces number one Tucson Sahuaro in the opening round of the state tournament Wednesday.
A lot of post-season wrestling went down over the weekend. In the high school state tournament, Bradshaw Mountain had three of its grapplers reach the podium. Carlos Villarreal placed third in his weight class. Riley Nollet placed fourth, and Jax Harcey was fifth.
None of Prescott’s boys placed at state, but on the girls’ side, Gianna May finished fourth, marking the first time a female wrestler placed at state for the Blue and Gold.
Chino Valley had two placers, Luis Aviles was fifth and Lyric Brooks was sixth at state.
At the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament, Embry-Riddle finished as runners-up, with Keller Rock, Landon Smith, Jonah Chew, and Daniil Gorshkov champions in their weight classes.
