Awards for Local College Athletes, with YC Basketball’s Parent ACCAC Defensive Player of the Year

Honors poured in for some of our local collegiate athletes. At the forefront is former Prescott High School basketball player Jason Parent, now with Yavapai College. He was named the ACCAC Defensive Player of the Year. Parent was second in the conference with 39 steals and tenth in blocks with 17. He also got it done offensively by averaging 16 points per game. Parent’s teammate, Nadir Myers, made the All-Conference First Team, leading the ACCAC with 20.4 points per game.

Quite a few “of the week” awards were also given out. For Yavapai College, baseball’s Traig Oughton was named Conference Pitcher of the Week for tossing his second no-hitter of the season. Justin Cherrington was named Conference Player of the Week. In five games, he drove in eight runs and scored six.

For Embry-Riddle, softball’s Leah Salas was named the GSAC Player of the Week for putting up four home runs and seven RBIs in four games. Vanessa Brink was the GSAC Pitcher of the Week for striking out nine in her win over Concordia.
