Selected Yavapai County officials recently returned from the National Association of Counties (NACo) Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., where they actively engaged with federal lawmakers and officials on key issues impacting rural communities. Yavapai County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Brooks Compton, Supervisor Nikki Check, and County Manager Maury Thompson urged lawmakers to reauthorize the ‘Payments in Lieu of Taxes’ (PILT) and ‘Secure Rural Schools’ (SRS) funding.
During the conference, Supervisor Compton, Supervisor Check, and County Manager Thompson had the opportunity to meet directly with Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, discussing the unique challenges faced by Yavapai County and other rural areas in the state. A significant focus of their discussions centered on the importance of PILT and SRS in funding public safety, Firewise grants, and roads in Yavapai County.
Key takeaways from the conference included insights into potential federal funding opportunities and policy initiatives that could benefit Yavapai County.
