A blowout and a thriller. That’s how the Embry-Riddle softball team began its week. The Lady Eagles hosted Mount Mercy University Monday and absolutely owned the Lady Mustangs in game one, trouncing them 8-0. Vanessa Brink fired off a two-hitter, striking out six. She’s now 8-0 on the season. Kealey Myhre homered and drove in four runs. Anise Romo had two RBIs, and Leah Salas – who is second among all NAIA players in batting average at .532 – belted a solo home run.
Game two was a much more competitive contest between the two sides. Mount Mercy had the lead twice, only for Riddle to go up 10-9 in the bottom of the sixth. The Lady Mustangs tied the score in the top of the seventh, then in the bottom of the frame, Myhre walked it off with her second home run of the day, giving the Lady Eagles the 11-10 triumph. Salas also got her second round-tripper of the day, along with three RBIs.
Riddle is now 11-3 on the season. They host Benedictine Mesa in a double-header tomorrow.
