Fire Danger in Prescott Nat’l Forest Moderate

There is an increased risk for wildfire in the Prescott National Forest. The fire danger for the forest is now listed at moderate. It was low last week. Despite the recent snow and rain in the Tri-City area, the extreme drought conditions in most of Yavapai County have made the chance for a wildfire greater.

Everyone is urged to take precautions when out camping or hiking. Make sure your campfire is completely out and ashes are cool to the touch before you leave. If you smoke, make sure to properly discard your cigarettes. Do not throw them into grass or brush.

When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle as they can throw out sparks. Also, do not park on grass, as the heat from under your vehicle can ignite the vegetation.
