Ex-ERAU Coach Leads Buffalo to WNIT Championship

The University at Buffalo women’s basketball got off to a strong start in the championship game of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament Saturday with a 6-0 run. But former Embry-Riddle coach Becky Burke watched Troy University take control of the contest and go up 33-19 over her Lady Bulls halfway through the second quarter. Buffalo chipped away at the Lady Trojans’ lead and got to within ten at halftime.

The Lady Bulls kept getting closer to Troy in the third quarter, but the Lady Trojans continued to hold them off, ending the frame up 64-61. Buffalo stayed on Troy’s heels throughout the fourth quarter, then overtook them on a Terrah Harness three-pointer with under three minutes to go. The Lady Bulls maintained the lead the rest of the way to the 88-84 victory and the WNIT championship.

Along with the title, Burke – who was Embry-Riddle’s first-ever women’s basketball coach – led the Lady Bulls to a program record 30 wins for the season.
