YC Baseball Splits with Glendale

After three scoreless innings in game one of Saturday’s twinbill, the Yavapai College baseball team finally got on the board, posting four runs in the top of the fourth. Glendale, however, retaliated in the bottom of the frame with three runs, then tacked on a few more while shutting out the Roughriders the rest of the way. That gave the Gauchos the 7-4 triumph. Derek Kiepke drove in two runs for YC. AJ Diaz went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Game two was a close one with Yavapai holding on to a 3-1 lead after three innings. Then the Roughrider offense erupted like Mount Vesuvius as they run-ruled Glendale 18-4. Justin Cherrington went 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple, four RBIs, and four runs scored. Bradshaw Mountain grad Dalton Irwin tripled and drove in three runs. Jackson Schofield and Matthew Peterson both collected three RBIs. Owen Fernandes was the winning pitcher.

Yavapai improves to 27-17 on the season.
