The Prescott Fire Department has announced a change in their residential smoke alarm battery replacement policy. In an effort to better prioritize emergency calls, the PFD asks that residents request help from a 3rd party, rather than relying on emergency responders.
However, if this is not an option, fire crews will respond as availability allows between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. To keep units ready for an emergency, between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., dispatchers can give guidance, but responders will not be dispatched for battery replacements. Should responders be dispatched during the day, the resident is still responsible for providing replacement batteries and a suitable ladder, if necessary.
This policy change went into effect Monday.
