After having all of last week off, the Yavapai College softball team returned to the field Monday for a double-header with Central Arizona. All that downtime did not seem to affect the Lady Riders too much as they ended the first inning up 2-0. They upped their lead to 4-1 after four innings, but the Lady Vaqueros started coming back. YC managed to hold off Central’s late rally to get the 8-5 triumph.
Chino Valley grad Breanne Petty threw a complete game victory. Bradshaw Mountain alum Brianna Baca went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Tamryn Tucker, Kylie Sam, and Emmersyn Villa each had an RBI. Gracie Firth scored twice.
Yavapai trailed 3-0 in the third inning of game two before tying it up. Central Arizona regained the lead in the top of the seventh. The Lady Riders scratched out a run in the bottom of the frame, but lost 5-4. Villa drove in her second run of the day.
YC is now 17-15 on the season.
