Monday’s contest started out with Tonopah Valley baseball getting a run in the top of the first, then Chino Valley getting a run in the bottom of the first. The next two innings went by with bagels on the board. Then in the fourth, the Cougar offense reawakened and cranked out three runs. A couple more runs followed in the next two innings, while Freddie Garcia froze the Phoenix’s bats. At the end of the road, Chino came away 6-2 winners.
Garcia fanned six in a winning effort. Cutter McCoy drove in three runs and scored two. Jacob Boivin doubled and drove in a run.
Chino Valley is now 6-8 in its power point games and number 19 in the 3A Conference power point rankings. The top 24 teams qualify for the postseason.
The Cougars return to action tomorrow. They head to Waddell to play ALA West Foothills.
