On Monday, the Yavapai College and Eastern Arizona College baseball teams split their double-header. In the rubber game of the series Tuesday, both teams were neck-and-neck the entire day trying to get the series win.
The Gila Monsters were up 2-0 in the second inning when the Roughriders cranked out three runs to take the lead. Eastern went up 4-3 in the top of the seventh, only to have YC tie it in the bottom of the frame. The Gila Monsters then led 5-4 in the eighth when the Roughriders got hot at the plate for five runs. Eastern Arizona rallied in the ninth but fell short as Yavapai hung on for the 9-7 deke.
Kevin Ramos went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Brady Francisco drove in two runs. Nathan Nichols went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Yavapai is now 31-18. They conclude the regular season this weekend at home versus Cochise.
