PHS Girls Tennis Topped by Flagstaff in State Opener

In their regular season meeting, the Prescott girls tennis team got edged out by Flagstaff 5-4. Thursday, the two sides met again on the campus of NAU to begin the team state tournament.

Somer Huttman got the job done for the Lady Badgers at number one singles by scoring a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Juliette Gundermann had a heck of a battle at number four singles and got the 7-5, 6-4 win. In the closest match of the day, Huttman and Ciara Coleman pulled out a 9-8 win at number one doubles.

However, those were the only wins Prescott would get. Flagstaff got four wins at singles and two in doubles and took the match 6-3. The Lady Badgers finish the season with an overall record of 12-4.

Prescott will be represented at the state doubles tournament at the Mesa Tennis Center starting today. Huttman and Coleman, and Alder Aten and Gundermann have qualified for the tournament.
