The Sedona Police Department has released more information on the burglary incident that forced a shelter-in-place order to be given to the Chapel neighborhood.
Just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a burglary call on Gambel Lane. The homeowner reported he watched the suspect, 50-year-old Adam Christopher Sheafe, on a remote camera going through some boxes. Sheafe fled just before officers arrived.
A perimeter was established and the Sedona Police Department’s Quick Response Team, the Verde Valley SWAT Team, and Cottonwood Police K-9s were called in to assist with the search. Just before 9:30 p.m., Sheafe was found hiding in some bushes. When ordered to surrender, he fled into rugged terrain in the Coconino National Forest. Sedona police officers and a Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputy tracked him down and used a Taser to subdue him.
Police also found Sheafe’s vehicle at a nearby trailhead and determined it had been stolen from Cave Creek. Sheafe was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on numerous charges.
