Man Shot, Wounded, and Arrested Following Confrontation in Dewey-Humboldt

A man who reportedly threatened a family Saturday night in Dewey-Humboldt was shot by the homeowner.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, a report of shots fired came in around 7 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found one man surrendering and another with lower-body gunshot wounds. The wounded man was given first aid by deputies, then flown to a Phoenix hospital.

Deputies learned the wounded man, 32-year-old Dustin Hester, and the homeowner had been drinking when the pair got into a heated argument. YCSO officials say Hester left, then later returned with a large knife, threatening to kill everyone. The homeowner locked the doors with his family inside. Hester banged on the doors and windows while the homeowner told him to leave. When Hester advanced, the homeowner shot him in the lower part of his body.

Hester was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon, and threatening or intimidating. He is expected to recover.
