As fire danger remains extreme across the region, local fire officials are reminding residents — consumer fireworks are not allowed this Fourth of July.
The City of Prescott, Prescott Fire Department, and Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority want to remind the public we are under Stage One fire restrictions. Sale and use of fireworks, including sparklers, fountains, and novelty items, are strictly prohibited. The use of model rockets, outdoor firearms, and burn permits are also prohibited.
No firework permits have been issued in Prescott, and additional bans include model rockets, outdoor firearm use, and open burns. Cooking fires are still allowed at home or in designated city parks, but must be attended to at all times. Outdoor smoking is restricted to designated areas or enclosed spaces.
Prescott Fire Marshal Anthony Valdez says the city knows fireworks are a big part of Independence Day, but given the current fire danger, residents are urged to find safer ways to celebrate.
Families are encouraged to attend the professional show put on by the City of Prescott at Watson Lake Park this Friday.
