Man Arrested After Crime Spree in Cottonwood

Cottonwood police arrested 29-year-old Cody Gilmore after a violent crime spree Thursday night.

It started with a domestic disturbance. Cottonwood Police say Gilmore broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home, stole her vehicle, and later crashed it into a tree with her and three young children inside. No one was hurt.

Gilmore then fled on foot, broke into an occupied home, attempted to steal another vehicle, and was eventually located in the Verde River. When officers moved in, he reportedly attacked one of them, causing a serious leg injury. That officer still managed to make the arrest.

Gilmore now faces more than a dozen charges, including aggravated assault on an officer, burglary, and DUI with child passengers.

The injured officer was treated and released.
