Three wildfires broke out across Yavapai County Monday as the first monsoon clouds and rain arrived in the Prescott area. According to the Groom Creek Fire District, a small vegetation fire was reported near Goldwater Lake at around 3:45 p.m., with units from Groom Creek, Prescott, and National Forest fire departments responding. That fire was extinguished shortly thereafter.
Also, the Turkey Fire broke out in a remote area north of Cleator, reaching 100 acres by nightfall and causing some areas near Cleator to move to SET status. According to the Crown King Fire Department, more crews will be flown in to fight this fire today.
And, according to the Watch Duty app, the Slate Fire also broke out Monday afternoon in a remote area of Williamson Valley west of Paulden, and is now considered to be 100 percent contained with no estimate as to the size of the fire.
