With nearly 100 significant wildfires burning across the country, the National Interagency Fire Center reports the national preparedness level is now at four. Preparedness levels range from one to five. Level four means national resources are heavily committed to fighting wildfires, with national priorities governing the allocation of resources.
The state with the most active wildfires is Alaska with 65. Arizona has three major wildfires, including the White Sage Fire near Fredonia, the Dragon Bravo Fire at the Grand Canyon, and the Billy Fire in the Tonto National Forest.
While no major wildfires are burning in Yavapai County, the fire danger in the Prescott National Forest is extreme. Everyone is urged to be careful with anything that can produce a flame, a spark, or intense heat in order to prevent a wildfire from breaking out.
