Even with all the rain forecast for Yavapai County this week, the fire danger in the Prescott National Forest is back up to extreme. Last week the fire danger was very high. This is due to most of Yavapai County being in severe drought.
Everyone is urged to be careful with anything that can produce a flame or a spark in order to prevent a wildfire from breaking out. If you smoke, make sure to properly discard your cigarettes—do not throw them into grass or brush.
When driving, check that no chains are dragging from your vehicle as they can throw out sparks. Also, do not park on grass, as the heat from under your vehicle can ignite the vegetation.
It’s also a good idea to clear excess brush and vegetation from around your home to create defensible space in the event of a wildfire.
