A Yavapai County woman will serve time behind bars following an assault conviction. Erica Ann Montgomery of Sedona has been sentenced to ten and a half years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, according to County Attorney Dennis McGrane.
The 47-year-old Montgomery was was pulled on November 3rd, 2023 for running a red light and having a suspended license plate. She became aggressive, refused to exit her vehicle, and punched one officer in the face. During the struggle, she struck the officer in the head with a metal object, resulting in a concussion. A crowbar was found on the ground next to her car. Another officer was also injured during the altercation.
Montgomery was also given three years of probation for additional charges, including two more counts of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. McGrane said the sentence should send a clear message that violence against law enforcement will not be tolerated in Yavapai County.
